  4. I emigrated to Perth from Manchester earlier this year. I'm a carpenter by trade, and I used the State Sponsored Immigration route, which is where the Australian state of your choice sponsors your visa application if you have a skill. Your bloke is a painter so he will easily qualify. The best part about this visa is that you don't need to do the points test, and even if your occupation isn't an "in demand" one, you can apply as a de facto applicant on his application.

House prices in Perth are miles more expensive than they were but still fairly cheap compared to the UK, depending on where you came from in the UK and where you head for in Perth. You can easily get a 3 or 4 bedroom and 2 bathroom house in Perth suburbs such as Rockingham or Wanneroo for around $350k, or about 140k in sterling. The interest rate is higher, despite recent successive cuts-it's currently around 7%. Fuel is miles cheaper, here in Perth a litre is $1.05. Wages I would say are lower than the UK, though you pay less tax. My fiance & I earn around $125k gross a year between us and have a pretty decent lifestyle. We live 2 minutes from the beach on the Canning River estuary, and regularly see dolphins when we walk our dog there. The weather pisses all over the UK, with regular highs of 40 degrees in summer, and a daytime average of around 16-18 degrees in winter.
I would recommend using a migration agent, they are well worth the money if you get the right one. I used Concept Australia (offices in Manchester & London), they are all ex-Australian embassy staff, so they know everything there is to know.
Feel free to email me if there are any specifics you need to ask about.

  5. You would be better off without him. He is letting the drugs change him.He is becomming a different person.Think hard about what you want.If he loves you he will think about what you mean to him.

  6. It is a scam
That is the address of The Financial Times. But why would a company known through out the world need to use your bank account. They will either send you fake checks to pay in, or raid your bank. Either way you will lose.
    Don't reply.

  7. A severed foot is the ultimate stocking stuffer.

  9. Firstly, you have a return ticket, that lessens the funds needed. Generally if you don't have a ticket you need funds to purchase one which can be $2,000.

If you have work lined up that would prove income which IF they look will be on your side.

I would bring a certified copy of your bank statement (just have the bank stamp it) as well as a letter from your father saying that he will support you while in Australia and send you additional funds if and when you need them, a copy of his bank statement wouldn't hurt either. Often you see on these border security shows they will ring the person supporting them, so to have a letter with further contact details should be a help.

Most people won't be picked out, sometimes they might seem to pick a particular race or age, whatever… but it is random and you could appear as the risky tourist on your plane, you don't know. But I wouldn't think the probability is a high one but I wouldn't be taking too many chances either. Try and save what you can, have bank statements and a letter saying your father will support you, if you can get a credit card that can help but as with credit cards you would be needing to make payments while in Australia, so they don't guarantee anything.

Just a thought, can you not get a sponsored visa for the job through the Au Pair company. Just a temporary visa, not PR. I would be contacting them and asking and expressing your concerns. I'm sure they have been there before.

  11. honestly… the decission is yours. im in the same situation as you, and i think leaving school will be best for me. it depends. if you want to leave because your lazy, well guess what your gonna be lazy when your not in school, and youll get no where. if you are planning to get your GED, like me, then your showing you want to be successful, youll just get there in a different way. and also like you, im not looking for sucess/money… just happiness, but you need money soo yeah lol.

  12. You're definitely better off waiting a few years – obviously now isn't the right time to be moving over here considering how many banks are laying off staff. In terms of whether you'd have enough money, you'd certainly be better off if you've got a big deposit together for a house. It's never easy to pay off a mortgage and if your fiance is a contractor not a full time employee, he'd be reliant on work being available. Fortunately he's got a skill that is probably sought after as Australia has a skills shortage – http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/index.htm

  13. Nice trailer and I liked the action scenes.

  14. If you can get here before June '09, our government will give you $14000 First Home Buyers Grant for an established home or $21000 if you build or purchase a brand new one.

If you wait for 3 or 4 years, a decent house well out of most cities will cost something over $400,000. Even with a deposit of $50,000, that means a mortgage of over $350,000 and repayments of something over $3000 per month (depending upon the interest rate at that time. A tradesman painter and decorator won't have any trouble finding work and will earn good money though I'm not sure what your earnings would be at the bank. With both of you working, you should be able to service the mortgage (though with some difficulty), but you would be at the mercy of interest rate rises and other unforeseen and uncontrollable circumstances.

The sooner you can come the better, as apart from the FHBG which drops or even cuts out at the end of June, housing prices are fairly static at the moment and are even falling a little in some areas.

Painter and Decorator is currently on the MIgrant Occupations in Demand List (MODL) so your application would receive priority processing.

  16. Both parties lie, but the Republicans have really made an art of it. They absolutely hate when a Democrat is elected president, because they believe the White House just rightly belongs to them.

So they have honed their art on Carter and Clinton–make up just whatever bad things you can think of to say about a Democratic president, throw everything against the wall and see what sticks. Repeat the lies over and over, even long after they have been discredited, because if people hear them enough times they will come to think there must be something to them.

Whether you believe the odd or even numbers from this list depends on what party you belong to and which talk shows you listen to. 8^)

I voted for Obama because I thought he was the better of the two choices. I still think so. He's disappointed me in a number of small ways, but I still think he's a better president than McCain would have been, and we are better off under him than under Bush or McCain.

  17. @majerdaniel its a siren from the cop car

  18. if they don't love each other they will be happier divorced…

whatever the official reason might seem to be, the reality is- if there is love- they will not divorce.

The fact that she is divorcing means that she does NOT love him.

Why would you want him to stay married to someone who doesn't even love him?
Doesn't he deserve better than that?

  20. If you are going to claim more than $300 for work related expenses then you need a receipt so you will need to ask the people who did the course for another one. Note the course will not be claimable if it was to get a job rather than improve your abilities or lead to a promotion in your current job. Further if it was done at a TAFE you are not entitled to claim the first $250 of expenses relating to the course but you do not have to have receipts for this first $250. If the course is deductible then you can claim your costs of travel there and if you are going to claim your car using the km method then this can reduce the $250 without not being able to claim the actual care expenses because they are deductible under a different section! I don't write the laws so don't ask me to justify this rot, just need some points so I can ask a food question

  23. It is absolutely a scam. These people use this form of email because the average person reading it will realize that what they are suggesting is illegal at best, it's money laundering, but they make it attractive by offering to pay you 10% of what they get. They use the laundering aspect so that when you do eventually realize you have been scammed you will be reluctant to call the authorities because what they suggested you do is..illegal. What they do is take advantage of the fact that an internation cheque can take 14 days to actually go through, but Banks are required, in this country, by Federal law to made funds drawn against the cheque available within 3 working days..long before the cheque itself has cleared. Then they request that the 'victim' send them the balance of the money, often by Western Union. The vicitm thinks everything is above ground until a week later when the bank alerts them to the fact that the initial cheque deposited was counterfeit, and the victim is not only liable then for paying back the bank the amount of money taken, but you also have to answer to the authorities for attempting to pass a counterfeit cheque. This is called a cheque-kiting technique. I used to get emails like these about ten times a day. They come in many forms, but generally they involve moving large sums of money out of foreign nations.

    Watch out! Hope this helped.

  24. Was the customer right? No, if he touched you, he was out of bounds. But this happened awhile ago and should have been dealt with then. Who would you call as witnesses?

As for the drinking and stress. Sorry, that was your choice. A push does not warrant a week worth of drinking. You need to decide what to fight when.

Best of luck. I hope your new employer shows more respect for employees.
